How to “Catch” Customers on Your Website

The internet, much like a spider web, catches and attracts customers to sites. The goal of a website for business owners is to rank on page one of Google and then to use your website to generate leads. Over the years, the internet has made it much more competitive for many industries. Here are a few tips on how to make your website work for you:

Lesson 1: Build a Large Web

A larger website catches more leads. You must have enough pages with the right content to match what your potential customers search for on Google. What is all too common is a four or five-page website that lists all the company’s services on the home page, or a services page with a list of services. Instead, go in depth with your content with one subject on each page.

Lesson 2: Make Your Web Sticky

Once you have a potential lead on your website, offer additional valuable content that makes them stick around. As an example, you can include things like floor plans, financing or blog posts about content related to your business. You could also include a page about questions that customers frequently ask.

When a prospect searches a phrase and finds your site, Google ranks your site based on the amount of time prospects look at your site and the number of pages they view to indicate relevancy. The more relevant your website is, the higher you will be ranked in the search engines.

Lesson 3: Use a Funnel

Each page in your website should have a “Request a Free Quote” form or something similar. But if the visitor isn’t ready for a quote, how do you capture them and keep in touch? This can be done with something of value you offer on your site that a visitor can access after they provide their contact info. Some examples include a PDF of the Top 10 Most Requested Floor Plans, a white paper on how to use financing to sell to customers or a checklist on how to select a contractor.

Once you capture data from the lead on your site, put them into a marketing campaign so that you can further move them through the funnel and get them closer to a buying decision. The funnel continues to work in a different way once the customer has purchased from you. Stay connected with the customer because the chances of them referring your business to someone is greater.

Creating a website that brings in new leads and helps you close more sales is invaluable to your business.
