Clients are inundated with options when it comes to remodeling their home – paint colors, window options, door frames, countertop styles and colors, flooring, finishes, etc. Research shows that the more options the client has, the more frustrated they become during the decision-making process leaving them dissatisfied and unable to make a decision; and when and if they do make a decision they tend to second-guess themselves. Social media, especially Pinterest, the internet and home television shows have complicated the decision-making process even more for homeowners.
Get to know your clients and their budget and present them with 3-4 options to start with. Instead of handing them a booklet with 1,000 paint swatches, show them the colors you think would look best or show them the most popular ones. Your clients have hired you for your expertise, so it’s your job to manage the options and guide them through the decision-making process.
If you buy the wrong tool you can always run back to the store and exchange or return it. When you remodel your kitchen or bathroom you don’t get to redo it at the end (usually not) if you don’t like it. The stakes are much higher with a home remodeling project.
