Email Marketing Tips for Your Small Business

You don’t need a big budget to market a small business. Instead of investing in large-scale advertising campaigns, consider maximizing the results from assets you already have, such as your email list. Email marketing is a great way to nurture potential customers and earn referrals and repeat business.  Find tips to get results from your email campaigns below.

Tip 1: Collect an email address for all of your leads and customers so that you can engage them through email. Make the email address a required field on all contact forms on your website and be sure to send customers their project estimates, receipts, etc. via email. Encourage them to add you to their safe-senders list.

Tip 2: You can’t have a successful email marketing strategy without a well-organized CRM (customer relationship management system) to store and sort information about your customers. Keep your CRM up to date with notes about each customer and the work they requested for their home. Sort these customers by category to more easily target a specific audience, such as if they are a hot lead, cold lead, past customer or current customer.

Tip 3: Don’t treat every customer the same. Hot leads – people who recently contacted you and are serious about doing business – should have more regular contact than someone who you did a project estimate for six months ago and never heard from again. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue reaching out to the older lead.

Tip 4: Remember past customers. If a customer was happy with the work you did in the past they will likely be happy to work with you in the future – provided you are easy to get in touch with when the time comes. Consider creating a monthly newsletter with maintenance tips or general tips for homeowners so that when a past customer begins thinking about their next project, your contact info will already be sitting in their inbox.

Tip 5: Your emails shouldn’t all follow the same formula. Cover a range of topics to keep your audience engaged. Some customers may be interested in before and after photos of your work while others want to hear about special offers so that they can get the best deal on their project.
